Animal Farm is a story that represents the Russian Revolution of 1917 and Stalin's rise to power. Near the beginning the animals at Manor Farm start a revolt against their human masters because they weren't being taken care of properly. Once the animals had control they created a Communist system where the pigs were in control of everything. Over time the pigs began taking away the individual rights of the animals without anyone suspecting a thing. The leader, Napolean, turned the farm into a totalitarian state by executing anyone who disagreed with him. By the end of the story the pigs became just as bad as the rulers the animals rebelled against in the first place, but now the animals didn't realize anything was wrong.
This is an important story to remember because it teaches people the flaws in totalitarian government. The leader slowly takes away the rights of the people while acting like the hero.
